Paris Club agreed on Suriname's offer to prepay up its debt

The representatives of the Paris Club creditor countries agreed on 20 April 2026 with the Government of the Republic of Suriname on the conditions of the prepayment of its debts previously rescheduled in 2022 and 2024. The prepayment of the debt at the initiative of the Republic of Suriname, reflects the strong economic perspectives and an active debt management strategy by Suriname.

The principle of a prepayment at par as proposed to all Paris Club members was accepted. After conclusion of bilateral implementation agreements with participating creditors, all reimbursements have now been completed.

Background notes

1.    The Paris Club was formed in 1956. It is an informal group of official creditors whose role is to find coordinated and sustainable solutions to the payment difficulties experienced by borrower countries.

2.    The members of the Paris Club which are creditors of Suriname are France, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden.
