Organisations compiling and publishing debt figures

As transparency of debt figures is key to the proper functioning and the stability of the international financial system, Paris Club creditors encourage debtor countries to publish on a regular basis information regarding their external debt).

Some organisations collect debt information on a regular basis:

a) information gathered from debtor countries

The World Bank prepares and sells an annual report called "Global Development Finance" that describes the external debt situation of debtor countries.

In addition, the various IMF and World Bank country reports, posted on their web sites, usually contain debt information.

b) information gathered from creditors

Major groups of creditors publish information regarding their claims on debtor countries:

  • for official bilateral creditors that are members of the OECD (including Paris Club members): Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development
  • for banks: Bank for International Settlements (BIS)
